Stand where the camera sees you from head to feet.
2
March on the spot for eight steps. That sets the pace the race asks of you.
3
Run with your knees up, left and right in turn. Higher knees and a quicker pace run faster.
4
When a hurdle comes, jump or lift a knee to your hip. Rest between the heats.
About this game
Run on the spot and the runner on screen runs with you. The camera counts every knee lift: a quicker pace and higher knees give more speed. Race a computer over 100 metres, clear the hurdles, and rest properly between heats.
Where to stand
Full body
Head to ankles in view. Stand 2 to 3 m from a laptop or 1.5 to 2 m from an upright phone.
What it measures
How high each knee comes up and how often.
Whether your legs go in turn, and when you jump at a hurdle.
It does not measure heart rate or give medical advice.
Seated, quiet and low impact
Seated version
Sit and swing your arms while you march your knees. You race on a ranking of your own, with no hurdles.
Quiet mode
March instead of running high, and lift a knee to your hip to clear a hurdle. No jumping and no stamping.
Low impact
Your feet stay on the floor. No jumping.
Safety
Before you start. Check with a doctor if you are pregnant, have a heart or joint condition, or feel pain when you move. Stop if you feel dizzy or a sharp pain. Children play with an adult nearby.
